Learning to drive an automatic car is much easier than learning in a manual car, for example you don’t have to worry about mastering the gears or the dreaded clutch. Therefore in theory you should be able to reach the driving test standard quicker than in a manual car.

Learning in an automatic car was not always a popular choice. There was not many affordable automatic cars on the market. A lot of automatic cars seemed to use more fuel than manual cars. Automatic cars tended to be more expensive to service and insure.

The good news

Automatic cars today are so much more popular than they used to be, all the main car dealers usually have lots of cars to choose from. Automatic cars have improved a lot, nowadays they can be much more economical so much so that they can often match the economy of manual cars.

In America nearly everybody drives in an automatic car and the UK is catching up fast, in fact there will most likely be a point in the future when we are all driving electric cars which will be most likely all automatic. The good news is that due to popular demand most things have got cheaper such as, car repairs and insurance.

If I was learning to drive nowadays, I would choose to learn in an automatic car every time. In my opinion driving an automatic is so much easier and much more pleasurable.
